Kendall Toyota of Bend To Award Scholarships, Corolla to High School Graduates

BEND, Oregon Kendall Toyota of Bend is giving Oregon high school seniors a chance to win one of 10 available $1,000 scholarships, with one of them driving away in a new 2016 Toyota Corolla, in its Drive for Education contest.

Students may enter by May 1 if they have an overall grade point average of 3.0 or higher, meet the district’s attendance policy, have completed at least 15 service hours in their local community and attend the May 20th drawing for the winners.

“We marketed the contest in central Oregon but received applications from all over the state,” said Tressa Shuttleworth, community-relations manager for Kendall Auto Group.

After the scholarship winners are randomly drawn at the May 20th gathering, the students choose an ignition key from a bowl. Whoever selects the key that starts it, wins the Corolla, valued at $17,230, Shuttleworth toldEdmunds.

Shuttleworth said it marks the second year in a row that the dealership has hosted the giveaway.

“It shows we have a presence in the community and that we support our schools,” she said.

Last year’s contest also fueled sales. Parents of scholarship winners and other entrants returned to the dealership to buy cars after the awards were given out.

“It helped us reach some new customers,” Shuttleworth said.

Edmunds says: This dealership gets high marks for its dedication to education and the local community
